BE STILL
ESV Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
I was sitting at a red light today in Montgomery and I looked down at my radio. In the fraction of time that I looked down the light changed. What ensued was complete pandemonium. The person behind me started banging on the horn flew around me and gave me a gaze that could have penetrated an Afghani Taliban cave. Through this ordeal, I began to think. Unfortunately, I probably would have done the same thing and dropped a business card off by the way and invited them to visit. Why are we so busy? Why is there so much to do?
I had the most interesting prayer time with God this morning. As I attempted in my feeble, sinful, spiritually immature spirit to approach the throne of God, I found myself struggling to concentrate. This was not the normal ADD struggle so prevalent in my life. My mind was running through all the things I had to do today. Phone calls that need to be made, cards that need to be sent, meetings that need to be scheduled; I am the pastor; this is important stuff! Then……
As I was struggling and receiving the galactic death star gaze on Taylor Road, I heard God speak through his word, (not audibly so don’t spaz, we don’t need a special called meeting to discuss my charismatic ways) but he told me to be still. In all honesty, I struggle with this immensely and maybe this struggle is the point. We are restless attempting to do it on our own and our heart yearns for a God to take care of it for us, but our pride says we can do it ourselves so we intellectually go through all the things that we need to do to do it all all the while trying to pray and say that we can’t do it all. Got it! In comes the Gospel. I am going to really strive over the next few days to slow down and be still and let go. God is in control. I will be honest though, I am kind of nervous.
